In a bid of conserving the environment and increasing Kenya’s tree cover Kapsuswa Farm has planted 9,600 trees at their farm located in Sugoi, Turbo. Kapsuswa Farm, which was awarded the best large scale farm in Uasin Gishu award by Equity Bank in 2017, has decided to play its part to help bring Kenya’s green back and help save the country from drought. According to the study by Green Africa Foundation, a non-governmental agency, Kenya has been losing an astonishing 5.6 million trees daily, despite relentless campaigns on environmental conservation.

The research findings reveal that 64.6 percent of all Kenya’s 8.7 million households (based on the 2009 national population census) depend entirely on firewood as their cooking fuel, where each harvests between 10kgs and 20kgs of firewood daily.

According to FAO, tree planting and plantation forestry plays an important role in mitigating the devastating effects of climate change. The destruction and degradation of forests contributes to the problem through the release of CO2. But the planting of new forests can help mitigate against climate change by removing CO2 from the atmosphere.

Kapsuswa Farm is a leading supplier of fresh milk, maize flour and soon packaged silage. The farm produces 3,000 litres of milk daily and maintains a herd of 400 dairy cows. They also have their own milk ATM (Suswa Milk ATM) in Eldoret town which sells pure milk directly from their farm to consumers at affordable prices.
